Police Log
      Drunk driving charged William P. Janes, 47, of Newport was charged Sept. 14 with first offense DUI and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test after he was stopped for erratic operation of a vehicle and braking frequently for no reason. Janes was held overnight at the police station where he was arraigned and a pre-trial court date was scheduled for Sept.

Fire and EMS Runs
      Fire runs 10:18 a.m., Sept. 10, Marine 1, Car 3 and Special Services 1 were dispatched to Dumpling Drive for a combustible liquid spill. 2:05 p.m., Sept. 11, Car 3 was sent to High Street for a power line down call. 6:47 p.m., Sept. 11, Car 1, Engines 1, 2 and 3 were sent to North Main Road for a possible smoke call. The results were negative.
