Disorderly conduct charged
Steven Hackett, 24, of Middletown was charged Sept. 30 with disorderly conduct after having a verbal argument with an person on North Main Road. Hackett fled the scene prior to police arrival and was apprehended by Narragansett police in Narragansett on a Jamestown warrant, police said.
Hackett was held at the police station overnight where he was arraigned and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Oct. 19 at Newport District Court, police said.
Marijuana possession charged
Nolan McCaffery, 17, of 982 East Shore Rd., was charged Sept. 29 with first offense marijuana possession after he was stopped on Clarke Village Road for driving a suspicious vehicle in the area.
McCaffery was held overnight at the police station for arraignment and a pre-trial court date was set for Oct. 19 at Newport District Court. Two juveniles were also involved in the incident. One was charged with violation of a family court order and the other for first offense marijuana possession. The juveniles were not held at the station. Yet to be determined court dates will be scheduled for the juveniles at Newport District Court, according to police.
Jason Baptist, 25, of Attleboro, Mass., was charged Sept. 29 with a bench warrant violation from Sixth District Court after he was stopped for driving in Beavertail State Park after hours, according to police.
Baptist was held overnight at the police station where he posted bail the following morning. A court date is yet to be determined for Newport District Court, police said.
Man dies from fall off Bridge
A unidentified man jumped off the Jamestown Bridge Friday, Sept. 27 and was picked up by the crew of a private boat that witnessed the event.
Fire dispatcher Keith Godena said that Marine 1, the special services team and EMS 1 responded to the scene about noon at the construction pier at the old Jamestown Bridge. The man was pronounced dead at the docks, Godena said.
