Chorus rehearsing favorites for the holiday season

The Jamestown Community Chorus is now nearly halfway through its season of Monday night rehearsals for their annual holiday concerts. This year they will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., at the Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., in Jamestown.

A major highlight of this concert will be the chorus' performance of "Special Time of Year," composed and arranged by Sam Bari, who needs no introduction to Jamestowners. Sam joins a distinguished list of local composers whose work has been performed by the chorus.

The program will also include classical and popular selections such as "And the Glory of the Lord" from Handel's Messiah; "Immortal Bach" arranged by Knut Nystedt; and "Ruf zur Maria" by Johannes Brahms. Look for traditional English carols from Wexford, Sussex, and Somerset, along with "Deck the Halls" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," and some humor, with "Throw the Yule Log on, Uncle John" by P.D.Q. Bach.

Tickets go on sale in November. For more information, call 423-1574 or visit www.jamestownri. com/chorus.
