'Songs of the Sea' at URI Oct. 14
Summer may be officially over, but you can still go down to the sea again, in song, at the University of Rhode Island on Sunday, Oct. 14.
The second University Artist Series concert of the 2007-08 season will be devoted to the moods and mystique of the sea and those who live in and on it, and will be offered in Kingston at 3 p.m., featuring baritone Rene de la Garza.
The program will include a variety of musical styles and works, including German Lieder, art songs, sea shanties, arias and choral pieces.
The featured artist for this concert, de la Garza, has performed with opera companies and orchestras throughout the Northeast and has recorded on New World Records with the Boston Camerata.
The concert will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall off Upper College Road on URI's Kingston. Admission is $8 for the general public, and $2 for students, with seating on a first-come basis. The box office opens 45-minutes before the concert.
