Garden club to learn about bees

The Quononoquott Garden Club is sponsoring a program about the unique society of honeybees, which have seen a big decline in population in the past few years. The program will take place on Monday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Jamestown library and is free and open to the public.

Club President Gloria Westlake asks that everyone bring friends and neighbors as this program promises to be both informative and entertaining. Betty Mencucci, of Betty's Bee Farm in Glendale, will discuss bees' habits and favorite flowers and will also offer honey and beeswax products for sale after the program.

Vice President Jill Meyer suggests some fascinating reading prior to the program is the book entitled the "Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd.

The members-only business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. with a review of upcoming events. Committee reports will also be given at the meeting. This month's hospitality team is headed by Diane Faria and the civic beautification team is led by Susan Little.
