Jamestown design charrette begins Monday

A charrette is used as a collaborative public planning process, harnessing the talents and energies of all interested parties in order to create and support a buildable plan.

Starting Monday, Oct. 15, and continuing all next week, Jamestown will be holding such a charrette focused on the future of the village. This planning and design process has the primary goal of producing tools for the implementation of the town's Comprehensive Plan and Affordable Housing Plan. The principle tool will be an update of the Commercial, R-8 and R-20 zoning districts.

Several other documents, such as Design Guidelines and an Architectural Pattern Book, will be created to further guide future construction in the Village. These tools are intended to ensure that the character and tradition of the Village is respected.

It is essential that all residents be heard during this process. The charrette team wants to know your hopes and concerns for the future.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Monday, Oct. 15

Studio Open All Day.

An Opening Presentation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the community center.

Tuesday, Oct. 16 -

Studio Open All Day.

8:30 a.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Business Owners.

1:30 p.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Realtors.

3 p.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Young Residents.

7 p.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Core Village Residents.

Wednesday, Oct. 17 -

Studio Open All Day.

9 a.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Developers / Builders.

11:30 a.m. - Stakeholder Meeting: Waterfront Interests.

Pin-Up Design Review, 7 to 9 p.m. at Town Hall.

Thursday, Oct. 18

Studio Open All Day.

Friday, Oct. 19,

Closing Presentation, 7 to 9 p.m. at the community center.
