Town hall records
      Building permits Hugh Baertlein received a permit on Oct. 18 to renovate a third floor, construct a deck, install new windows and shingles according to plan at 16 Walcott Ave., work estimated to cost $25,000. Harry Wright received a permit on Oct. 18 to re-roof a garage at 240 Highland Ave., work estimated to cost $10,000.

Police Log
      Drunk driving charged Katie S. Padula, 33, of North Kingstown, was charged Oct. 19 with first offense drunk driving after a motorist reported her vehicle swerving erratically on Route 138 West. Police stopped the vehicle on Beacon Street where Padula was charged after failing a field sobriety and Breathalyzer test, police said.

Loss of loved one is support focus
      A group for bereavement support is forming at the United Congregational Church in Middletown. Jointly sponsored by Memorial Funeral Home and Hospice at Visiting Nurse Services, the group will discuss issues and emotions surrounding the loss of loved ones.

Fire and EMS Runs
      Fire runs 11:15 a.m., Oct. 15, Car 1 and 3, Ladder 1, Engines 2 and 3 answered an outside rubbish fire call on Narragansett Avenue. 8:50 a.m., Oct. 16, Car 1 and Engine 2 responded to a flammable liquid spill call on Park Street.
