A real treat for chowder fans

The Jamestown Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Business Expo & Taste of Jamestown "Chowda" tonight, Nov. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the community center.

Donna Olney Kohler, the chamber's executive director, said that the new venue at the community center is "more visible and downtown," so they hope to draw more people this year.

Several retailers will set up at the expo, not just to talk about their shops, but also to help people get a head start on their holiday shopping. "Yes," Kohler said, "they will have plenty of items to sell," at the evening event.

Among the most popular reasons to attend the expo is the food.

Kohler said that five island restaurants will be whipping up their best chowder recipes for everyone to sample. Included in the eateries are East Ferry Deli, Trattoria Simpatico, Narragansett Café, Slice of Heaven and Chopmist Charlie's, Kohler said.

"This is an opportunity for residents to learn more about the variety of businesses we have on the island, and maybe start some holiday shopping," said Vicki deAngeli, Chamber president.
