Help families in need this holiday season

The Women's Resource Center of Newport & Bristol Counties provides opportunities for community members, businesses and churches to Adopt-A-Family recovering from domestic violence each Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanksgiving: This year the Thanksgiving Day program runs from late October to Tuesday, Nov. 20. Community members can provide a victim or survivor served by the Women's Resource Center with a Thanksgiving Day meal by donating gift cards from local supermarkets for the trimmings of a Thanksgiving Dinner - or direct donations/baskets filled with rolls, stuffing mix, canned gravy, boxed or fresh potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, pies, cheese, crackers, juices, sodas, coffee, tea or milk.

Holiday: This year the Holiday Season the Adopt-A-Family program runs from late October to Tuesday, Dec. 18. Companies or individual community members can Adopt-A-Family served by the Women's Resource Center. Victims or survivors of domestic violence who participate in Women's Resource Center services are eligible, and all client names are kept confidential. Community members, groups, organizations and businesses can help a victim or survivor and their children by donating gift cards for groceries, clothing or other gifts and new unwrapped gifts. Supermarket gift cards, gift certificates or cards from local restaurants, gift cards from stores where parents and children may purchase clothing, essentials and other gifts, and/or gas gift cards are all ideas that can help provide a great Holiday for people moving toward living safer lives.

Each year dozens and dozens of families from Aquidneck Island, Jamestown, Tiverton, Little Compton, Barrington, Bristol and Warren have a brighter holiday season thanks to the generosity of our communities.
