Dinner to fund capitol trip
Jamestown's grade 8 students will be traveling to Washington D.C. next June for a four-day field trip.
A dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov.17, to help raise money to pay for this trip. The dinner will be served by the students to members of the public who want to see that the trip is funded.
St. Matthew's parish hall will be the setting for the event. Tickets are $30 for an upscale dinner, with a choice of steak, chicken or vegetarian lasagna. Seatings are from 5 to 6 p.m. or from 6 to 7 p.m. and tickets are limited to only 60 for each seating. Tickets must be bought no later than today at Baker's Pharmacy, or by calling Sue Fay at 423-3027.
Piano concert is free on Sunday
The Jamestown Community Piano Group will sponsor a piano recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.18, at St. Matthew's Church on Narragansett Avenue.
Performing will be University of Rhode Island piano students of Manabu Takasawa and Grace Urrico. Those students include Adam Salisbury, music minor from North Kingstown; Justin Cahoon, music performance major from Cumberland; Helen Zhang a music minor from Providence, and Daniel Kutty, music major from Providence. Also performing are three piano performance graduate students including Claire Huang from Taiwan, Linda Pezzullo from Old Lyme, Conn., and William Greub from North Kingstown.
The program will include works by Bach, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev. All are welcome. Admission is free. Donations for the upkeep of the Community Piano are always welcome.
Garden club history showcased
A new exhibit has been installed in the Jamestown Historical Society display case at the Jamestown Philomenian Library. The exhibit features objects and information about the Jamestown Garden Club and the Quononoquott Garden Club. They both have distinguished histories and have made many contributions to the community.
A notebook on the top of the case has more detailed information on their past achievements.
East Passage group meets tonight
The East Passage Lot Owners Association will hold their annual budget meeting tonight, Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.
The meeting will be held in the library museum room and all lot owners are encouraged to attend. Sign up for driver's education class
CCRI Driver's Education classes taught by Jim Barron will be offered at the Jamestown Fire Station beginning on Nov. 30 and running through Jan. 15, 2008.
