Holiday concert coming soon
      The Jamestown Community Chorus will present its 2007 Holiday Concerts on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., at the Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., in Jamestown. A major highlight this year will be the chorus' performance of "Special Time of Year," a song in eight-part harmony written and arranged by Sam Bari.

Celebrate Dickinson's birthday
      A celebration of Emily Dickinson's birthday will take place at Jamestown Philomenian library on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7. The poet was born Dec. 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. She lived there her whole life and died there in 1886.

Self defense for women offered
      Sign up now for a self-defense class for women. The Jamestown Police Department is offering a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Class. This is a basic self-defense class for women of all ages. The four-day class will be held Dec. 2 to 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Jamestown Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave.

Buy luminaries to help Troop 1
      Jamestown Troop 1 Boy Scouts are sponsoring Jamestown's third annual "Starry Night," to be held Dec. 1, the same night as the tree lighting. At 4:30 p.m., participating Jamestown businesses and residences will light up their walkways, steps, entrances, etc. with rows of luminaries provided by Troop 1.
