Volunteers made campaign a success

Being elected to the office of Town Councilor was both an uplifting and humbling experience. The rush of finding out that had I won and the realization that I now had the responsibility of doing what is in my power to help Jamestown maintain its pristine beauty while moving forward.

To this end, I realize that I have many people to thank for their support during the campaign period. First, I want to express my gratitude to those individuals who cast their most precious vote for me. The implication of that is not wasted on me, and I will try to live up to your faith in my abilities.

The Democratic Committee and the past and present members of the Town Council who advised and supported me should also be thanked for their words of encouragement and support. I am especially grateful to Bill and Mary Kelly, Nick Robertson, Carol Nelson-Lee, Julio DiGiando, Deb Ruggero, Mary Meagher, and all others who worked so hard on the campaign.

Julie Andrews, and the group of phone callers that she organized the weeks before the election, spent hours calling friends on my behalf (and this while she and a number of them were in rehearsal for JCT's "Into the Woods.") I offer my heartfelt thanks to you all for extending our bond of friendship into yet another realm.

To those who mailed and handed out letters in support of my campaign, I owe you all my deep gratitude.

Cathryn Jamieson and Phyllis Bedard were both wonderful and gracious in their endeavors on my behalf. I extend my gratitude to you both. Your support of me is very meaningful.

To all the candidates that ran, win or lose, I extend my congratulations! The process of electing people to operate and represent our community is an important part of who we are. Without your generosity and willingness to put yourself on the line, that process would cease to be effective.

My hope is that these next two years will be as exciting and fulfilling as my expectations and yours!

Michael G. White,

Jamestown
