Holiday happenings continue this weekend

Christmas island is ready for its second weekend of holiday fun. No need for traffic or malls this holiday. Stay close to home and get in the holiday spirit.

Saturday, Dec. 8 Santa Run - North

Santa Claus and his elves will travel north of Weeden Lane using a fire truck as a sleigh. Anyone who pops out of his or her house to meet Santa will be greeted with a holiday treat. Look for him starting at 10 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 9 The Polar Express

Take a trolley ride through Jamestown while singing carols and listening to a reading of Chris van Allsburg's "The Polar Express." Make a final stop at Jamestown's very own "North Pole" to see Santa. The trolley departs from East Ferry at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. The event is sponsored by Baker's Pharmacy and Jamestown Fitness. Tickets cost $5 per person and may be purchased at Baker's Pharmacy, 53 Narragansett Ave.

Open House

Cathryn Jamieson Salon, The Nail Shoppe and Pas de Chat, 16 Narragansett Ave., will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a grand prize drawing for a gift basket worth $1,000. The winner must be present to win.
