The Walrus Says

By Jim Munro

These letters were sent overnight express so they would arrive at Santa's in plenty of time before the elves started packing the jolly one's sleigh.

"Dear Santa,

I want a John Deere tractor and a Crash 'N Go speedway please.

Santa, I'm doing good behavior!

Santa, I love you.

Santa, I am going to give you a kiss!

Love (Signed) Matthew"

"Dear Santa

I would like a Lego race car and truck set and a remote contol car

Cameron

(This letter has sketches illustrating the above toys.)"

"Dear Santa,

I want a racetrack and a white cat that is pretend and makes noise. I want the racetrack to be big for my remote control cars.

Love, (Signed) Evan "

"Dear Santa Claus,

How is Mrs Claus? Is she happy with you? I love Mrs. Claus and Santa Claus. Are you both having a good time together in the Noah Pole with the reindeer?

I am being real good. My brother and I really like each other and sometimes hug and kiss each other. Our favorite show is The Backyardigans.

You and Mrs. Claus are stars. I hope you have a good time when you got married.

Here are my presents I would please like:

1. Barbie boy doll

2. Coloring books with Princesses or Fairies

3. Barbie gowns 4. Backyardigan things

5. Barbie house

You and Mrs. Clause - I love you!

Bye, Bye, Santa Mrs. Claus

(Signed) Julia

The Froberg compound on North Main Road is all decked out for Santa.

The drive home from Davisville last Thursday was a scary one-hour ride. Routes 1 and 1A in North Kingstown, the Jamestown Bridge and North Road had not been touched by the DOT four hours after it had begun snowing.

Rocket Dawg A.O. Gutierrez has joined the ranks of proud grandparents. His son, Josh, and daughter-in-law Ryan are the beaming parents of Owen Pierce Gutierrez, born in Cambridge, Mass. last Wednesday.

The word is that all are doing well, especially GrampsDawg.

Don't pass by that big red kettle, the Salvation Army does the best job out there.

Some yuletide fun from B.J. Whitehouse. It's called Christmas Song First Lines and the point is to figure out the Christmas song by using the clue based on the first line of the song. The clue contains the first letter of each word in the opening lyric.

For example: Otwoifbtfisd would be "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" (Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful)

OK, here we go! 1. OcocEarci 2. Tfntadswtcpsifatl 3. WwyamCWwyamC 4. OtfdoCmtlgtmapiapt 5. CroaofJFnayn 6. IsmkSCutmln 7. IdoawCjltoIutk 8. Csbsdihs 9. Dttsiaohos 10. HthasgttnK HO!HO!HO!

Dr. Joshua Hatch of the Jamestown Animal Clinic says if you plan to take Fido on your winter vacation there are certain things you may have to do now. "If you are traveling with your pet to warmer climes then make sure to contact your airline well ahead of time to find out what requirements are in place. Most pets will need a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian a few weeks prior to travel. Your pet should also be up to date on his vaccines and deworming prior to flying.

"If you are traveling internationally there is often a significantly more involved process including more paperwork and restrictions. If you are leaving the country then you should contact the U.S.D.A., the country you are planning to travel to, and your veterinarians office as soon as possible in order to arrange your plans correctly ahead of time and make sure your time line is adequate to get all your paperwork done. Some countries, especially island nations, have very specific restrictions and quarantine periods and knowing those in advance will help insure everyone has a safe and stress-free vacation."

In reply to our poser last week, Larry Lewis writes, "I'm thinking two songs may qualify as answers to 'If this isn't love, then...' but in each case, the wording slightly differs from your version. First up is the far more visible artist, Elvis Presley, as:

'If that isn't love, Then heaven's a myth, There's no feeling like this,

If that isn't love.'

'The other answer might be by the vocal group Pandora:

'If this isn't love, Tell me what is it then,

Maybe something above what we can't understand"

Patty Vandal had the lyrics we were looking for:

"If this isn't love, Then the whole world is crazy. If this isn't love, I'm daft as a daisy."

***

Patty would also like to thank the Good Samaritan who plowed out her driveway Sunday afternoon. "Whoever it was, I thank them and say a great big 'Bless You'."

***

And, from Barbara Morinho: "Let's see how many readers remember this song: 'Hang up the baby's stocking, be sure and don't forget, for the dear little dimpled darling, has never seen Christmas yet.'

My mother used to sing this song when I was a little girl."

***

Another moment of mirth with Beth:

A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments. They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers off thy neighbor's wife."

The full moon on Christmas Eve is the Moon Before Yule or Long Night Moon.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a great life!

Be true!
