A tribute to talented musicians

On Saturday, Dec. 8, over 250 folks gathered at North Kingstown High School auditorium for the traditional Tubaphonia Christmas Concert sponsored by the North Kingstown Arts Council. Loud voices sang and many toes tapped to the music of the season. Where else can we gather to experience such a collection of brasses? Players from students to "mature musicians" participated in this joyous concert.

Special thanks go to Centreville Bank for their annual sponsorship. Without them, there would not be a concert. And, there certainly would not be a concert without the able leadership and participation of Martin Hellewell and Ray Vallee. Even more important are the 50-plus players who spend a Saturday afternoon rehearsing and the evening performing.

This is a true old-fashioned New England holiday event. We are already looking forward to next year, and the next Tubaphonia concert on May 10.
