We’d like to hear what you would like to read

Here at the Jamestown Press we like to think that we have the town pretty well covered. We deliver the news of the island 52 times a year. We hope you find the Press an informative read.

Every week, the Press has the news of our local government — the Town Council and the School Committee, along with proceedings from most of the town’s commissions, committees, and boards.

Our intrepid Press reporters seek out interesting stories about islanders to share with our readers. Our photographers capture the memorable moments of island life.

The Press columnists cover just about everything else from gardening to senior life to humor. We keep you up to date on local events and happenings at the library and about town. Readers share their thoughts on timely matters in our letters section of the opinion page.

We also cover the news of record — life and death, police and courts, real estate sales, and building permits.

For your convenience, we’ve made the newspaper available on the Internet at www.jamestownpress. com. In addition to what appears in our print edition, our Web site has lately featured audio/slide shows of local happenings.

So last week when a reader suggested a weekly feature that the Press might initiate, we started wondering what other ideas our readers might have. How can we improve the Press? We want to know. More pictures? More features?

Yes, we’re asking you to tell us what you’d like to read in the Jamestown Press. Please send me an e-mail at jmcdonough@jamestownpress.com. The old-fashioned way of communicating also works: just write a short note and drop it off at our office or mail it to 42 Narragansett Ave.

In the next the few weeks, we’ll share some of those ideas with you.
