Legislators to hear about rising premiums

      An ad hoc House committee on homeowners' insurance and reinsurance wants to hear from you if your insurance premiums have dramatically escalated. The committee will meet Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the rise of the House session between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Young poet to be published in anthology
      Nick Lee, a grade 8 student at the Lawn Avenue School, entered his poem "Roller Coaster of Life" in a national writing contest. The poem was selected to be published in the upcoming "A Celebration of Young Poets.

Islanders win awards in science fair

      Four high school freshman girls from Jamestown received ribbons for excellence last Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, at No. Kingstown's Earth Science Fair. One of the young scientists also received a special recognition in the community, awarded by the Narrow River Preservation Association.

      Ron DiMauro and John Tumino have taken 14-year-old Chad Woodward under their wing and given him the skills to become an architect. Chad goes to the Met School in Newport, a unique program that empowers the students to take charge of their own learning and become responsible citizens.

      The Trustees of the Jamestown Philomenian Library will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Dates for their meetings in 2007 are Feb. 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, and Dec. 4.
