Single-family home application recommended for approval

      The Planning Commission approved a proposal to construct a new house, and continued reviewing two others at its Feb. 7 meeting, with a quorum of four out of seven board members. Three commissioners supported the application for Rosemary Baron to build a two-bedroom house on North Bayview Drive.

Safe bike, walk routes to school are aim of local study

      A new grassroots effort has spun into action to create and encourage safe bicycle riding and walking on the island. The group of volunteers, called Rolling Agenda, is working to define and fund a study of best land use for the Jamestown school grounds and perimeter.

Council accepts $75,000 grant to hire new police officer

      Town Councilors agreed Monday to accept a $75,000 federal grant to hire another police offi- cer, as originally awarded in 2004. The addition will enable the police department to have 15 full-time members. The grant has been on hold since first approved, mainly because of budgeting considerations.

Library received incorrect IRS forms
      The IRS sent 6,000 public libraries incorrect 1040X forms and instructions. The incorrect forms bear the revision date, "REV. December 2006."
