Assault charged

Steven Hackett, 23, of 67 Cole St. was charged Feb. 6 with domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism.

Hackett was taken into custody at the police station when turned himself in after being notified that the police had a warrant for his arrest.

He was held at the Adult Correctional Institutions while he awaited a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Feb. 13 at Newport District Court, police said.

Suspended license arrests

Barry Roberts, 46, of Portsmouth was charged with driving with a suspended license after a routine traffic stop Feb. 10 on North Main Road, police said.

Mark Taylor, 37, of Poplarville, Miss., was charged Feb. 12 with driving on a suspended license.

He was also cited for pulling an unlicensed trailer after he was stopped Route 138, police said.

Nabbed on warrant

Kathleen Champagne, 18, of 10 Narragansett Ave. was picked up on a bench warrant issued by Newport District Court Feb. 11 after a routine traffic stop on North Main Road, according to police reports.
