Book group chooses next book

The Afternoon Book Discussion at the Jamestown Library continues on Tuesday, March 13, with the book "The Floating Brothel: The Extraordinary True Story of an Eighteenth-Century Ship and Its Cargo of Female Convicts" by Sian Rees. The group meets at the library at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

This is the story of 237 female convicts who left England for New South Wales on the "Lady Julian" in 1789. The author says in the introduction, "Some of the women who arrived as frightened teenage criminals would become the founding mothers of Australia, settling into respectability and prosperity. Others would be lost along the way, recreating in the New World the misery they had left in the Old."
