David Dolce named new school committee member
By Dotti Farrington

The Town Council voted 4-0 Monday to name Republican David Dolce to a seat on the School Committee to fill the vacancy created by the death last month of James Filkins.

A Democrat, Filkins was elected in May, 2003, to a term that ends in November.

The appointment was made in accordance with the Town Charter and state law that require a School Committee vacancy to be filled by the next highest vote getter in the most recent election, which was May, 2005.

Dolce is the tax assessor for Portsmouth. He is also a certified real estate appraiser.

Dolce, age 50, ran on a platform of spending restraints for education. He served from 1998 to 2000 on the Town Council. He and his wife Jill have three daughters.

Dolce joins three Democrats and one Republican on the school committee.
