Town gives $5,000 for bike path planning study
By Dotti Farrington

Town Councilors Monday approved $5,000 as the town's share for the Rolling Agenda plan for a comprehensive study of the campus of the town's schools and its connection with a proposed bikeway- proposed to connect the island's north end with the school area.

The council specified the funds would come from the $5,000 donated by Disney Films for unrestricted town use as its courtesy fee to the town for cooperating with its filming of the movie "Dan in Real Life," in Jamestown last fall.

The Rolling Agenda plan has been in development two years, initiated by Carol Nel- son-Lee with a few like-minded individuals to brainstorm a bike program to encourage youngsters to ride bikes to school, the library, ball fields and other locations in town. The effort is growing into a broader program to ensure that in planning safe bike routes, the plan assures that other, related uses of school property are coordinated.

Its focus also is to promote both safe and healthy use by residents of all ages on the trails to be developed.

In addition to town funds, the promoters are seeking contributions from school, organizational, state and federal, and private sources.
