Panel meets tonight to plan island's 350th anniversary bash The committee charged with organizing Jamestown's 350th anniversary celebration will meet at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 15. Three hundred-fifty years ago the colonists purchased Conanicut Island from the Narragansett Indians. A major islandwide celebration is being planned this summer to commemorate the historic event. Organizers are planning a number of community happenings staged from Aug. 11 through Aug. 19. The 350th committee is asking all of the island's community and civic organizations to stage their own events during the celebration week. The Jamestown Press plans to publish a commemorative program detailing the week's events. All ideas and events are welcome! Be creative. All island organizations are invited to send representatives to the meeting. The group will meet at the Jamestown library. |
