Island police recovered 63 of 91 bottles of alcohol, worth $2,500 that was allegedly stolen from the Bay Voyage Inn and Resort on Conanicus Avenue on Monday, March 5, according to Police Detective Derek Carlino.
The morning crew at the Bay Voyage discovered the alcohol missing from the bar when they arrived at work at 7 a.m.
When the police investigated inn workers, one claimed to have knowledge of the alleged theft and gave police information that led to the arrest of Bay Voyage employee William Keating, 18, of 81 Mockingbird St. in North Kingstown.
A 17-year-old juvenile accomplice from Jamestown was also arrested.
Keating and the juvenile were arraigned at Newport District Court on Wednesday, March 7.
Keating was released on $5,000 personal recognizance. The juvenile was referred to family court. Both were charged with intent to commit felony larceny.
The alcohol was destined to be sold for underage drinking parties, Carlino said, crediting Jamestown Officers Karen Catlow and John Areson, who were also involved in solving the case.
While the police were investigating the incident, they
also arrested Matthew A. Medeiros, 21, of North Kingstown, a Bay Voyage
employee. Medeiros was wanted on a bench warrant for not appearing at a
sentencing hearing on another matter, police said.
