Suspended license, possession

Craig Rich, 27, of Newport, was stopped for speeding on March 9 at Beacon Ave. and Spindrift St., police said. Rich was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana, according to police.

Police said that the possession charge was his first offense. Rich was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and scheduled for a pre-trial hearing March 30 at Newport District Court.

Suspended license

Nancy E. Cutter, 52, of Providence, was stopped on Rt. 138 on March 10 after police received a 911 call reporting an erratic operator. Police said they followed Cutter's car and stopped the vehicle when she drifted out of the main lane of traffic onto the breakdown lane. She was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license. A court date was set for March 30 at Newport District Court.

DUI and suspended license

Michael Moniz, 38, of Providence, was stopped on Rt. 138 on March 10 when police observed him swerving, police said. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said it was his first offense.

Moniz was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace. A pre-trial hearing was set for March 16 at Newport District Court, according to police.
