Volunteers needed to fill committee posts Three vacancies exist on the Jamestown Affordable Housing Committee. Each has a three-year term. This committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on issues relating to housing. Members sit as a review committee for proposed Housing Trust Fund Projects and conduct studies and analyses of the current housing conditions in Jamestown, to be used as a part of the Comprehensive Plan. One vacancy exists for a Jamestown alternate representative on the subcommittee for the Coastal Resource Management Council. The city or town council of each coastal community shall appoint a resident of that city or town to serve as an alternate member of the CRMC subcommittee should there be no existing member of the Coastal Resources Management Council from that city or town available to serve on the subcommittee. The Jamestown representative would then serve as an additional member of the subcommittee only in contested cases specifically affecting the Jamestown coastal community. This is a two-year term. One vacancy for a three-year term exists on the Jamestown Fire Department Compensation Committee. In accordance with Section 4 of an ordinance providing tax relief for the members of the Jamestown Volunteers Fire Department, the committee will make annual recommendations to the Tax Assessor regarding the eligibility for a property tax exemption of each member. This committee shall promulgate rules and regulations for the maintenance and safekeeping of such attendance records as are reasonably calculated to provide suitable evidence of eligibility. One three-year term vacancy exists on the Jamestown Emergency Medical Services Committee. This committee meets several times during the months of January and February to formulate a list of members of the association who qualify for tax exemption. The committee makes annual recommendations to the Tax Assessor regarding the eligibility of members for an exemption in accordance with Section 4 of the ordinance providing for tax relief for the members of the Jamestown Volunteer Ambulance Association. One vacancy exists on the Jamestown Personnel Board. This is for a three-year term. This Board makes recommendations to the Town Council regarding policies and procedures governing municipal employees and may be assigned other related duties by the Town Council. Meetings are held as needed. In accordance with the Home Rule Charter of the Town of Jamestown, no member shall hold or be a candidate for any public office or position and shall not be or have been for at least two years prior to his or her appointment, nor can they be a member of any national, state or local committee or political party. One vacancy exists on the Jamestown Tax Assessment Board of Review. It is a three-year term for a regular member. The Tax Assessment Board of Review hears and considers the appeal of any property owner concerning the amount of assessed valuation as determined by the assessor. The board keeps accurate records of its proceedings that are available for public inspection. One three-year term vacancy exists on the Town Buildings and Facilities Committee. The committee is charged with evaluating the condition and usefulness of existing municipal facilities and developing a plan outlining the nature of renovations and changes determined as necessary. Any resident who is a registered voter in the Town of Jamestown and is interested in serving should contact the Town Clerk by submitting a letter of interest and background.
