Ali's Run off to winning start

Ali's Run won its season opener in the Newport Babe Ruth league with an extra innings, come-frombehind 3-1 victory over R & R Construction this past Sunday at Cardine's Field in Newport.

Will Deffley pitched a fantastic game, striking out 12 batters in seven innings of work. He helped his cause with a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning. The victory was a team effort, with all players making key defensive plays and executing good base running. In particular, Bruce Page and Ryan Woodward contributed with key hits, Matt Baptista pitched a sparkling eighth inning of relief and Nick Lutes made a great gameending play from third base. The team will play this Sunday, May 6, at 4 p.m. at Cardine's Field.
