NPR station on the air over Jamestown

By the time you are reading this newspaper, Rhode Island's first National Public Radio station will be heard in Jamestown.

It used to be that in order to listen to the Providence based WRNI 1290 AM, you had to leave the island and head north. As of 12:01 a.m. today, WRNI started broadcasting on 102.7 FM out of Narragansett. The signal will cover all of southern Rhode Island, including Jamestown.

The details of WRNI's programming features are reported in a news story elsewhere in this issue. Suffice it to say that the format includes all of the popular NPR news and features covering international and national events, business news, as well as arts and sports.
