Pendragon first up for concert series

Summer music in Jamestown kicks off its 2007 season with one of New England's best known Celtic bands bringing its unique style to the East Ferry Memorial Square on Sunday evening, July 8, at 6:30 p.m.

The group Pendragon has embraced New England's rich tradition of Celtic inspired music, and created a timeless sound of its own, performing traditional roots music with an unmistakable contemporary edge.

Pendragon seamlessly blends lively jigs and reels with singer Mary Lee Partington's original songs depicting the experience of the immigrants who settled here and their role in the mill and textile traditions of New England. The band also features Bob Drouin on bouzouki, fiddle and tenor banjo; Russell Gusetti on guitar, concertinas and five- string banjo; Josh Kane on flute and whistles; Ken Lyon on vocals, guitar and bass and step dancer and percussionist Kevin Doyle, a U.S. champion dancer. Their performance elaborates on the cultural and historical context of the music while creating a humorous and relaxed stage presence.

The concert is free of charge. Bring a chair or blanket, sit back and enjoy the evening. The event is sponsored by the East Ferry Market and Deli and the Jamestown Press. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Recreation Center.
