All-Star team puts up good show at tournament

The 12-year-old Jamestown All-Star baseball team finished in the state tournament with a record of 2-2.
The Jamestown Baseball 12- year-old All-Star team had its best appearance in recent history, finishing fourth in the seven-team Cal Ripken state tournament, which was held July 7 through 10 at Rainha Field in West Warwick.

After losing a tough 9-2 decision to Darlington (Pawtucket) on July 7, the team rallied on July 8 and beat a South Providence Washington Park team 10-3. Tyler Woodward pitched a great game and Graham Jamison provided strong relief to get the win. Offensively, Dan Irwin, Kevin Mc- Dermott, and Owen Heath stood out for the team. Eric Stroud, Adam Southworth, Nathan Lambert, and Joe Reale contributed with some key defensive plays to help with the victory.

The team continued their winning ways on July 9 with a dramatic 13-3 win over Apponaug. Burke pitched a great game, while McDermott, James Chamberlain, Matt Rafanelli, and Southworth provided the offense. Heath contributed defensively with several outstanding catches in the outfield while Reale, Tyler Woodward, and Graham Jamison also played well in the field.

The streak came to an end on Tuesday with a heartbreaking 14-0 loss in a rematch with Darlington.

The coaching staff praised the team for their best showing in several years, finishing with a record of 2-2 in the tournament.
