Town, RITBA, come to terms on bridge land sale

      Town Administrator Bruce Keiser met Tuesday afternoon with representatives of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority to hammer out final details of the agreement to purchase a piece of land the authority owns to put up a highway barn.

Town workers change course on highway barn site
      Rhode Island Local 69, the Jamestown Public Works Union called a special meeting on Aug. 21 for the purpose of revisiting the highway barn site selection position. Previously the union supported Lot 47 for the site of the highway barn.

Jamestown bridge deemed safe by state inspectors

      State Department of Transportation (DOT) officials said this week that the Jamestown Verrazano Bridge, built in 1992, was not on the list for special reinspection this month, and is rated safe based on an inspection during the past year.

Island motorists kill 26 deer
      At last week's town council meeting, it was reported that Jamestown had the second highest deer auto strikes in Newport County Hunters reported 56 deer kills on the island last season, while automobile drivers accounted for 26 more.
