Island fire department aided by BankNewport

BankNewport's Mike DeVito presented Fire Chief Jim Bryer with $2,500 for the purchase of a new thermo energy camera. The funds came from the harbor tour proceeds during the 350th anniversary celebration week, plus a gift from the bank.
During the recent Jamestown 350th Anniversary Celebration, BankNewport's Jamestown Branch hosted four "Narrated Historic Cruises" aboard the Jamestown Ferry. Approximately 140 people joined BankNewport by purchasing cruise tickets with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Jamestown Fire Department. All four cruises sold out for a total of $1,600. BankNewport contributed an additional $900 donation to bring the total proceeds to $2,500 for the fire department's purchase of a thermo energy camera.

Incorporated in 1897, the Jamestown Fire Department is located at 50 Narragansett Ave. In an effort to provide protection of the lives, property and a safe environment of the citizens of Jamestown, the 65 members of the allvolunteer department provide fire protection, oil spill response, and marine fire and rescue.
