High School Happenings

The week of Oct. 15 is Spirit Week. The week starts with a dodge ball tournament on Monday at 7 p.m. in the gym. Another highly-anticipated event is the powder puff game, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. Last year sign-ups for this popular event filled quickly. Be sure to see the sign-up sheets outside of the cafeteria. East Providence High School plays football at North Kingstown on Friday, Oct. 19. for the homecoming game. The homecoming dance will be the following night, Saturday at 7 p.m.

College representatives will be visiting the high school during October and November. Seniors can speak with the representatives in the library after signing up in the front office. The University of Delaware, Wellesley, Quinnipiac University, and the Massachusetts College of Art will be visiting the first week of October. The guidance counselors are gearing up for a busy college application season and would like to remind students that applications are due to the front office at least two weeks before the college deadline.

Open House will be tonight, Thursday, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Principal Gerald Foley encouraged parents to attend. "Open house is a night we look forward to because it is the night we invite parents to meet teachers. It is an important night and I hope many parents are able to attend," he said.

There is no school tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 28. Sleeping in is mandatory!

Sometimes the e-Portfolio process can be a little daunting. The school is holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. for both parents and students about this important graduation requirement.

The SATs are scheduled Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 a.m. Don't stay out too late on Friday and be sure to get a good night's sleep.

The PSATs will be given on Oct. 17 and 18.

Senior Parent Night is on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature information on financial aid and other information valuable for parents of college-bound seniors.

The North Theatre Troupe 6945 will present the show "Rumors" on Nov. 16, 17 and 18. The show will start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18. Islanders Madelaine Crabtree, Sarah Croak and Rachel Perry all have understudy roles in the play. These plays are always a hit with the community, so be sure to catch one of the performances.
