Jazz musician benefit slated

Keep the Music Alive, a New Orleans to Rhode Island Jazz Weekend, will feature The Storyville Stompers, a New Orleans traditional Dixieland style band, in concert Saturday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 14, at Emmanuel Church in Newport.

Keep the Music Alive is a fundraising and awareness-raising event to benefit the musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans. Funds raised will be used to support the Mission to Musicians run by St. Anna's Church of New Orleans. St. Anna's provides work opportunities, meals, housing assistance and medical care in co-operation with the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic to musicians living in and around the devastated Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, meet and greet the musicians at a New Orleans style party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Donation is $15 per person and $5 for children under 12.

On Sunday, Oct. 14, the Storyville Stompers will perform at both the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service, and again at a 5 p.m. Ecumenical prayer service at the Grace Church in Providence.
