Drunk driving charged

Katie S. Padula, 33, of North Kingstown, was charged Oct. 19 with first offense drunk driving after a motorist reported her vehicle swerving erratically on Route 138 West. Police stopped the vehicle on Beacon Street where Padula was charged after failing a field sobriety and Breathalyzer test, police said.

Padula was held overnight at the police station where she was arraigned. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Nov. 2 at Newport District Court, police said.

Marijuana possession charged

Dennis L. Melucci, 60, of North Kingstown was charged Oct. 20 with first offense possession of marijuana after a routine traffic stop on Route 138 East, police said. Melucci was held overnight at the police department where he was arraigned. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Nov. 2 at Newport District Court, police said.
