Empty bowls to be filled Nov. 2

The annual Empty Bowls event is slated for Friday, Nov. 2, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Melrose Avenue School.

The event brings awareness to issues of poverty.

For $15 adults, and $10, children, participants will select a handmade bowl, a spoon and can choose from several gourmet soups and stews.

A jazz trio will serenade diners and there will be a silent auction and sales of T-shirts.

All proceeds benefit local food banks, just in time for their Thanksgiving rush.
