Film on healthy food for kids A preview screening of a new film called "Two Angry Moms," will be shown Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport. The film is free due to corporate sponsorships. This is a thought-provoking film that discusses the importance of joining together to change the food situation for school children. The film details the current children's health crisis and gives concrete steps to help individuals understand how they can help to change the food to feature more local, organic, healthy choices for children. It is an inspiring film in that it shows how two "regular" moms were surprised to find out how their children were eating in school and documents how they went about finding reasons why certain foods were being offered and then what they could do to help foster change. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring a holistic nutritionist, Dorothy Brayley, the executive director of KidsFirst, Cathy Kaiser, chairwoman of the Jamestown School Committee, John Turenne, a chef featured in the film, a pediatrician and Nikki Vazquez, representing community/school gardening. Kaiser recently led the Jamestown School Committee to find healthy lunch alternatives for the Jamestown school children, and hired a new food service vendor, who started this year.
