Santa to tour by firetruck
      The Jamestown Fire Department will be conducting their annual Santa Run this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9. Members of the fire department will be transporting Santa and his helpers around town starting at 10 a.m. both days.

'Holiday Medley' this weekend
      The Jamestown Community Chorus will perform its "Holiday Medley" program twice this weekend, first on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and again on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. Both performances will take place at the Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave.

      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will host a winter book sale in the gallery hallway at the Jamestown library beginning tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 7 through Monday, Dec. 10, during regular library hours. Some little used and much loved volumes will be available at great prices.

Help plan teen center activities
      The Jamestown Teen Center will hold two planning meetings on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the recreation center. The student meeting will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and the parent meeting will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Garden club gets new officers
      The Quononoquott Garden Club will install the 2008 club officers at their meeting on Monday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. The meeting will be followed by the club's Christmas luncheon at the Conanicut Yacht Club.

Veteran's recall Pearl Harbor
      The island's veterans groups will commemorate Pearl Harbor Day on Friday, Dec. 7, by raising the flags over East Ferry's Veterans Memorial Square. Volunteers are needed to help the veterans put up more than 100 American flags, each donated by the family of a Jamestown veteran.

JEMS honored by BankNewport
      Jamestown Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) recently received $500 from BankNewport as a goodwill donation to acknowledge the efforts of the volunteer first responders who continually provide emergency service at no charge to Conanicut Island residents.
