Museum grant to pay for repairs The Rhode Island Historic Preservation Commission has awarded the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association a $50,000 grant for needed repairs to the light keeper and assistant keeper's houses. The Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association is gearing up to undertake a $709,055 project that will transform the light station into a more accessible and expansive historic destination. The Commission voted to fund $50,000 of a $100,000 project that will focus on the keeper's and assistant keeper's houses through masonry/chimney work, repairing exterior wood trim, repairing basement windows, and paint. They funded a small project in 2004 that repaired the historic windows and installed new wood storm windows on the keeper's house, assistant keeper's house, and light tower. Beavertail Lighthouse serves as a stunning educational destination for its approximately 15,000 to 17,000 yearly visitors. |
