Pets parade to celebrate holidays
      Join Jamestown's furry friends this Sunday, Dec. 23 as they parade down Narragansett Avenue in their holiday finery. The parade begins at 12:30 p.m. at the fire station, 50 Narragansett Ave. Registration begins at noon at the fire station, and a $5 donation is requested.

NKHS ranked in top 3 percent of the nation's high schools

      Jamestown youths now have proof they graduate from high school with an excellent public education. The island's school of record, North Kingstown High School, has been awarded a national "silver medal" standing, announced by U.S. News and World Report last week.

A little Christmas in a barrel
     Donna Chellis and Rita Antine, members of the Quononoquott Garden Club, put greens in one the 35 downtown barrels to decorate for the holidays. The club fills the barrels every year to beautify the downtown area during the Christmas season.

Gift-giving reaches global heights

      Sixth grade students in Jamestown bought and wrapped presents for children in need both locally and abroad through two separate gift drives this holiday season. Through their spirit of giving, the three classes at the Lawn Avenue School touched families' lives in Rhode Island and Iraq.

Frenchtown Road ramp open
      Commuters traveling along Route 4 south have a new option servicing the East Greenwich- North Kingstown area. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced last week that it advanced the opening of a new ramp from Route 4 south to Frenchtown Road (Route 402).

Town contracts with unions set until 2010
