Drunk driving charged

Melissa J. Shuhy, 27, of 86 Pemberton Ave., was charged on Dec. 16 with second offense drunk driving, refusal to take a Breathalyzer test, and driving with a suspended license, police said.

Newport Bridge toll plaza personnel called the police after she hit the abutment when she was paying her toll and reported that she was driving erratically.

Shuhy was held overnight at the police station where she was arraigned. A court date has been scheduled for Dec. 28 for a pre-trial hearing, according to police.
