Bell ringers to perform at the library
      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will host "The Shoreline Ringers" this Sunday, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m. in the library meeting hall. The Connecticut-based Shoreline Ringers, Inc.

Volleyball league starts Jan. 8
      The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department will run a Youth Volleyball program for students in grades 6 through 8 on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Lawn Avenue School gym. The program will run from Jan. 8 to March 18 and costs $25. High school volunteers are needed to assist during the program. Scholarships are available.

View "The Italian" at the library
      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will be kicking off this year's 2008 Foreign Film Series on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. with a showing of the 2005 Russian film, "The Italian." The film's runtime is 90 minutes. All films are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the library at 423-7280. Refreshments will be served.

      The Jamestown Teen Center will hold several planning meetings to organize for the Teen Center Grand Opening on Friday, Feb. 15.

Enrichment instructors needed
      The Jamestown Schools are looking for after-school enrichment proposals from interested instructors. The winter session will begin Jan. 21 and will run for eight weeks. Proposals should be submitted to Kathy Almanzor, Lawn Avenue School, 55 Lawn Ave., or Carrie Melucci, Melrose Avenue School, 76 Melrose Ave., by Tuesday, Jan. 8.

      The Conanicut Island Christmas Bird Count will take place this Saturday, Jan. 5, from 7 a.m. to noon. Birders are asked to meet early at the Jamestown Police Station, 250 Conanicus Ave. For more information, contact Candy Powell at 423-1492 or Evelyn Rhodes at 423-1254.

Help plan island animal shelter
      There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in helping initiate a Jamestown animal shelter on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m., at the Jamestown library. Volunteers and board members are needed, but anyone interested in helping with the shelter in any way should attend the meeting. Refreshments will be served.

RITBA will hold public meetings
      The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will be holding public comment meetings to discuss the Fiscal Integrity Study conducted by PB Americas, Inc. regarding bridge revenue for the Pell Bridge and Mount Hope Bridge. The first meeting is set to take place at the Jamestown Philomenian Library on Monday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.
