Learn during winter vacation
      Parents are encouraged to register their children for a set of February school vacation programs sponsored by The Friends of the Jamestown Library in cooperation with the Audubon Society. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 1 to 2 p.m., the Audubon Society of Rhode Island will present the program "Seasonal Sensations" for children from Kindergarten to grade 2.

Hear a children's story at the library
      The Jamestown library children's room will hold story times for children and their caregivers throughout the month of February. On Mondays, the library will hold Mother Goose Time for infants and babies up through 24 months old, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., followed by story time for 3 to 5 -year olds from 11:15 to noon.

Cassidy's film debuts at reception
      Jamestown filmmaker Patti Cassidy's new short film "Three Haiku," will premiere at the closing reception of the "Kimonos" exhibit at Rhode Island College's Bannister Gallery today, Thursday, Jan. 31.

Rock with the Elderly Brothers
      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will host the acoustic folk/ rock sounds of the Elderly Brothers at 3 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 3, at the library. The Elderly Brothers have been making music in the Newport area for the past two years.

Learn the art of calligraphy
      Learn the beautiful art of calligraphy at a workshop with Jane Bentley at the Jamestown library. The class will run on Mondays, Feb. 4, 11, 25 and March 3 at 7 p.m. Sign-up is at the Jamestown library and the $12 materials fee is payable at that time and includes the cost of a pad and pen.

Join Abe Lincoln at the library
      Island residents are invited to get a jump-start on the Lincoln Bicentennial at "An Hour with Honest Abe: a Monologue by and Conversation with Him," on Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the library. Fred Zilian, the Dean of Faculty at Portsmouth Abbey School, will portray Abraham Lincoln for the evening.

      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will feature Ernest Jacquet, owner of 1980 America's Cup winner Freedom, as part of its Sailing Lecture Series tonight, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m. at the library.
