Not all plastics are recyclable
      Island Rubbish, the town's recycling contractor, is asking islanders to be aware that there are only two types of plastic items that are recyclable. Only plastic jugs and bottles bearing a stamp on the bottom with a 1 or a 2 can be recycled. The caps must be removed. Currently no other plastics can be recycled.

Jamestown Chamber supports "Night for..."
      The Jamestown Chamber of Commerce is soliciting letters of interest from local organizations to be the 2008 recipient of funds from its annual "Night for..." fund-raiser. In the past, the Chamber has raised funds for the Dutch Island Lighthouse, Jamestown Historical Society and Jamestown Farm community.

Taguchi to perform on community piano
      The Jamestown Community Piano Association will present the first concert of the spring season on Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m. at St. Matthew's church. Hiroshi Taguchi will perform Franz Liszt's "Benediction of God in Solitude," and Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Sonata No.2.

Musicians can apply for music award
      The Jamestown Community Chorus is seeking applications for its second annual Music Award. The award, supported in part by a grant from the Rhode Island Foundation, is intended to encourage interest in music among members of the Jamestown music community. The award will support a project or activity up to a maximum of $500.

Next foreign film screening on March 6
      The Friends of the Jamestown Library announce the showing of the third film in their 2008 Foreign Film Series, which will be screened on Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. The film is the 2002 Iranian film "Baran." "Baran" is directed by Majid Majidi and is a love story about a 17-year-old boy, Lateef, living in Teheran, working in the kitchen of a construction site.

Coast Guard safety and rescue lecture
      The Sailing Lecture Series hosted by the Friends of the Jamestown Library will welcome U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel Andrew DeCoste BM2 and Mitch Miller SN on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Join them for a discussion on "Safety Issues and Rescues at Sea.
