Bench warrant violations

• Jorge Santana Lopez, 22, of North Kingstown was charged Feb. 24 with a bench warrant violation from Fourth Division District Court in South Kingstown for failure to appear for a court date. Police checked his ID when the car in which he was a passenger was stopped for a traffic violation on North Main Road, police said.

Lopez was taken to Second Division District Court in Newport where he was handed over to Sheriff's Officers, police said.

• Joseph Medeiros Jr., 30, of 65 Frigate St., was charged Feb. 24 with a bench warrant violation from Sixth Division District Court for failure to appear for a court date. Police knew a warrant was out for Medeiros and picked him up when he was seen walking on Narragansett Avenue, police said.

Medeiros was held at the police station and the case was turned over to the Sixth Division District court for a future court date after he posted bail, police said.

• Joshua Neves, 19, of 126 Narragansett Ave. was charged with a bench warrant violation Feb. 25 from Fourth Division District Court in South Kingstown for failure to appear for a court date. Police knew a warrant was out for Neves and picked him up when they saw him standing at the corner of Narragansett and Pemberton Avenues, police said.

Neves was held at the police station and the case was turned over to the Fourth Division Court for a future court date after Neves posted bail, police said.

Suspended license charged

Michael Gillis, 36, of 126 Narragansett Ave., was charged Feb. 26 with driving with a suspended license, police said.

Gillis was stopped on Narragansett Avenue because police knew his license was suspended. He was not held. An arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 29 at Newport District Court, police said.
