John Craig, 87
John Hodgeman Craig, 87, formerly of Mashpee, Mass. and Massapequa, N.Y., died Feb. 22, 2008, in Newport, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1920, he was the son of Alexander and Helen (Hodgeman) Craig. He graduated from Bowdoin College, cum laude, and was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. He joined Aetna Life and Casualty after his graduation and also served in the U.S. Navy onboard several aircraft carriers in the Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1980 from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Commander. He retired from Aetna in 1982 after 41 years of service.
Mr. Craig is survived by his wife Carolyn (Chapman) Craig of Wakefield, his daughter Lynn Craig McLaren of Exeter, N.H.; his son John H. Craig, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Boxford, Mass.; his stepdaughters, Diane Chapman of Medina, Ohio; Patricia Munafo and her husband Dominic of Jamestown, RI; Janice Nelson and her husband Jay of Denver, Colo.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his granddaughter, Lee and her husband Mark Gray of Woodinville, Wash.; John Collins Craig of Burlington, Vt. and Katherine Margaret Craig of Boxford, Mass.; and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Margaret DeMott Craig of Worthington, Mass. Mr. Craig was predeceased by his wife Janet De- Mott Craig and his stepson Arthur H. Chapman.
In addition to his loving family, he is survived by eight nieces and nephews and three step granddaughters. The memorial service and burial will be private.
