He graduated from Needham High School, earned a degree in hotel management from Paul Smith's College in New York and attended New England School of Photography. Jonathan was married to Cindy Walsh.
He co-owned Welch Brothers Kodiak Expeditions in Alaska with his brother Jeffrey and was an expert huntsman and sports fisherman, having learned to fish at Ft. Getty. He is survived by his brother Jeffrey Sheridan Welch of Kodiak, Alaska, Robert Cotton Welch of Rangeley, Maine, his sister, Betsy Welch Ruzicka of Jamestown and Duxbury, Mass., his nephews Dylan and William Welch and a niece, Abbie Ruzicka. He was the grandson of the late Sheridan and Elizabeth Thorup.
Jonathan will be cremated in Alaska, according to his desires and a memorial service will be arranged by friends and family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Jonathan would ask that we stop and smell the roses, the foggy nights, and the sparkle in the sea spray.
