No tax increase

Councilors, don't raise our taxes!! We cannot afford it. The State is practically bankrupt, and the country is falling into a deep recession. Predictions have heating oil and gasoline at $4.00 a gallon! When we have to pay $800 to fill our 200 gallon oil tanks to keep warm, and $50 for gas to go to work, we can't pay more in taxes.

Just because the state law permits you to spend 5% more does not mean you should. Government, all government is out of control. Programs are started when times are good, they expand, become fat, and are never cut. For instance, with all the mess the country is in, why in the world would you lower the retirement age for some town employees to 20 yrs? Think about that! A person is hired when he's 20, works until he 40, retires, and we hire another in his place and so on. With people living longer we could end up paying money out to 4 people in one slot - one working in the slot, and 3 retired. A very costly position.

I was raised in an old yankee family. Our family motto was "use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without". Councilors, I want you to do just that, "use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without."
