Town looking to fill volunteer committee vacancies
Three vacancies exist on the Jamestown Affordable Housing Committee. The committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on issues relating to housing. Members shall sit as a review committee for proposed Housing Trust Fund Projects and conduct studies and analyses of the current housing conditions in Jamestown, to be used as part of the Comprehensive Plan. The appointment is for a three-year term.
One vacancy exists on the Jamestown Fire Department Compensation Committee, for a citizen-at-large. In accordance with Section 4 of an ordinance providing tax relief for the members of the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department, it shall be the duty of the committee to make annual recommendations to the Tax Assessor regarding the eligibility for an exemption of each member. The appointment is for a threeyear term.
Two vacancies exist on the town's Personnel Board. This Board makes recommendations to the Town Council regarding policies and procedures governing municipal employees and may be assigned other related duties by the Town Council. Meetings are held as needed. In accordance with the Home Rule Charter of the Town of Jamestown, no member shall hold or be a candidate for any public office or position and shall not be or have been for at least two years prior to his or her appointment, or be a member of any national, state or local committee or political party. The appointment is for a three-year term.
One vacancy exists on the Tax Assessment Board of Review. The Tax Assessment Board of Review hears and considers the appeal of any property owner concerning the amount of assessed valuation as determined by the assessor. Meetings are held as needed following revaluations until all appeals are heard. The appointment is for a three-year term.
Two vacancies exist on the Town Buildings and Facilities Committee. The Building and Facilities Committee is charged with evaluating the condition and usefulness of existing municipal facilities and developing a plan outlining the nature of renovations and changes determined as necessary. The appointment is for a three-year term.
Any resident who is a registered voter in the Town of Jamestown and is interested in serving should contact the Town Clerk by submitting a letter of interest and background. Applications can be found on the Internet at www. jamestownri.net or at the Jamestown library, 26 North Main Rd., and Town Clerk's Office located at 93 Narragansett Ave. Persons who have submitted letters in the past are encouraged to do so again. The deadline to respond is April 10.
