Largess to speak on being a sailing coach
      The final talk in the Friends of the Jamestown Library Sailing Lecture Series will be today, Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Matt Largess and he will talking about his experience coaching at the high school and collegiate level.

Be part of 'earth hour'
      Last year, on March 29, some 2.3 million residents of Sydney, Australia turned off their lights for one hour. The date for Earth Hour 2008 is approaching. To participate, individuals and businesses should turn off their lights for one hour, beginning at 8 p.m., on Saturday, March 29. No matter where one is, they can turn off their lights for Earth Hour.

Vision to be discussed over breakfast
      The final session of the 2008 Winter Breakfast Series, sponsored by the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, will be Thursday, April 3, from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Bay Voyage Inn. The topic of the session will be "Jamestown Vision: Next Steps," featuring Town Planner Lisa Bryer, and Planning Commissioner Mike Swistak.

Help plant beach grasses this Saturday
      The Conservation Commission will conduct a sand dune restoration project this Saturday, March 29, to repair dunes damaged in last fall's storm. They are seeking volunteers to help island teens and Scouts plant 11,000 beach grass plants.

Fortenberry talks on Sri Lanka travels
      Island sailor Bill Fortenberry will give a talk and slideshow on his travels to Sri Lanka on Friday, March 28, at the Portuguese American Citizens' Club. The talk will include a pot luck supper and a cash bar. Everyone is asked to bring a hot dish, salad or dessert to share.

Apply for women's club scholarship
      The Jamestown Women's Club has increased its two annual scholarships to $1,000 each. Applicants must be Jamestown residents and high school seniors who are planning to further their education. Scholarship applications are available at the Jamestown library. Completed applications should be mailed to Jamestown Women's Club, Box 412, Jamestown, RI 02835 before May 12, 2008.

Community theatre offers scholarships
      The Jamestown Community Theatre will present two $1,000 awards to graduating seniors for achievement in theater and performing arts. The awards will be made on the basis of an essay not to exceed 500 words that describes the student's involvement in theatre and/or performing arts.
